Ceramics with roots in Japan, shaped by Fanoe
We create handmade ceramics inspired by the Japanese Hagi tradition, but with a Scandinavian touch. Each piece is unique – with small variations that reveal the human hand behind it. The clay’s living texture, the subtle glaze, the simple forms – everything comes together in a style that feels both timeless and present.
Already today, our plates adorn the tables of some of Denmark’s most ambitious restaurants. They choose us because they sense the love for detail. Because they know that what we make is not just tableware – it’s part of the experience.
We believe in the perfect within the imperfect. In authenticity. In the mastery that only time can bring. That’s why we produce in small series, with our hands as our most important tool. For us, it’s not just ceramics. It’s stories fired in clay.

Long ago, in the quiet kilns of Hagi, the potters worked with clay that breathed like the earth itself. Their cups and bowls, when fired, often cracked or warped in the heat. To honor the spirit of the clay and the flame, the masters began to carve a small cut at the bottom of each piece.
Some said it was a mark of humility — a reminder that no vessel, however beautiful, is perfect. Others whispered it was a sign of honesty, showing that the potter had nothing to hide. And over time, people came to believe that the little cut allowed the bowl to “breathe,” keeping it alive, so that tea and rice would taste truer within it.
So every Hagi vessel carries this quiet scar. It is a signature, a tradition, and a story etched into the foot of the cup — a gentle reminder that beauty often rests in imperfection, and that even the smallest cut can hold the weight of centuries.
